Last week I was at Shibiri, Ojo Lagos for a family function.
I came in to Shibiri through Okokomaiko, and I saw two buildings that reminded me the miraculous power behind being rejected/getting NO if taken with positive mindset. That scene sent my mind back to over 18 years ago.
In 2006, my great friend Edwin and I set out on many occasions to get employed at a place called WHITE HOUSE and one peanuts producing company, all along Okoko(AKA road) – Ajangbadi road.
But all we got from them was NO or we’ll get back to you. More painful is the that fact on many occasions of our job hunting to these places at Okoko, we trekked either TO or FRO from Shibiri.
Last week, an incident that once put me in a sad mood put smiled on my face remembering that I once did all of these to work in a production company for as ridiculously low as N4,000 or N5000 monthly
As a young men then, it was devastating getting NO at these 2 different places. Personally for me, it made me felt I was completely INCOMPETENT!
You know that feeling you develop seeing your mates being accepted in a place while you’re rejected? Chai, this feeling is very hard to handle with positivity by young men living in this our society that values COMPETITION above COLLABORATION.
As I pondered on the scenes, a question showed up on the corridor of my mind – Wale, what if you were employed and the dream you’re living today never happened?
What if working at any of those places discouraged you from pursuing your dream and murder it in the process?
The above questions taught me another perspective about failing and being rejected. It taught me that being rejected here can mean you’re too good to be there if you’ll work more on yourself and give time TIME to do that magic it’s capable of doing with your life.
It taught me that being rejected can mean this is not the path that leads to where your calling and inner joy lives. It taught me that working here or being accepted here can mean you’re settling for less and giving up on the future you’re destined to live.
It taught me that taking this route will deny you the opportunity to express your greatest gift and sing the most melodious song in your heart and live the purpose God created you for.
I don’t know the actual lesson you might have gotten reading this piece, but I’m sure you ought to have picked one or two lessons from it.
Whatever the lesson may be, pick the inspiration that accompanies this piece. I know you might have been REJECTED where others were ACCEPTED, do not castigate yourself.
Do not give up on yourself. Being rejected can mean God is directing your steps to where He has prepared for you to demonstrate the utmost POTENTIAL in YOU and live your finest dream.
