MY CONVERSATION WITH A SEXAGENARIAN

I had a conversation with a woman last month. She is above 60 years of age.

She told me about her humble beginning and her travails at early stage of her marriage.

Every word from her mouth was firm, assertive, wise, optimistic and encouraging yet made me feel emotional.

She is the definition of “we don’t look like what we’ve been through.”

I never would have believed it if anyone had told me those days that someday I would also buy a piece of land or build a room let alone owning houses in 2 states in Nigeria; she remarked emotionally.

If you’re close to me, you should know that I love to have conversations with older folks.

No matter how unwise or unsuccessful you think an older person is, he/she always have invaluable lessons you could tap from in their journey and experience if you pay attention enough.

This woman said a lot about how life was extremely rough for her at the beginning, that I was fixated to her story and experience.

She said one thing that hit me differently: “People were gossiping that I would never become anything tangible in life because my poverty and misfortune was on another level.

I heard them, and I was extremely determined that their premonition would never come to pass in my life.

And today, I thank God for not allowing their words to come to pass in my life”; she uttered with tears streaming down her cheeks.

I have a message for you If you have the patience to read to this point.

Life has always been harsh to most successful people at the beginning of their life.

Do not feel discouraged or give up no matter how hard you think life is treating you now.

Do not lose your patience and go looking for prosperity or breakthrough through shortcut or quick fix approach.

Stay committed to the process. Even if your present situation is rough and tough, maintain a positive mind.

I have seen so many yesterday’s push overs become today’s trailblazers.

God can rewrite your own story too.
